Ratchet and Clank was one of the first big games of my youth - I had something like 15 playthroughs on my 'Going Commando' Save slot and the same for 'Up Your Arsenal'. This was my first return to the series in over 15 years. Rift Apart is a brilliant expression of the series but streamlined and sanitised somewhat compared to the original incarnations - Ratchet is a little more wholesome and a little less snarky, the evolution of the weapons as you level them feels a little less ambitious, and the exploration of the environments a little less winding, but the core gameplay and cutscenes are the smoothest and most emotive they've ever been. Sounds negative but overall for me this was a brilliant throwback for a single playthrough - probably would be worth a challenge mode run with the addition of another upgrade tier of weapons with new unique effects but I'm satisfied with my 20hrs on the hardest difficulty.

While it is a good, nostalgic feeling game, it is (as every single PlayStation game) WAYYYYY too short. Hardly even 15 hours to 100%. Id personally say its only worth the price on sale. The gameplay is great, and exactly like you remember in the 2000's. The writing is horrible, and they are desperately trying to replace the main character, as with most of these 2000's eras reboots. But also, its a game made for 10 year olds in the 2000's so, who really cares honestly.

Lots of fun and very true to Ratchet and Clank's usual style and gameplay feel, the new weapons are all fairly fun to use and I'd be pressed to think of a single gun I didn't enjoy using at all, hoping that this leads to new sequels/more R&C development!
